Kinship Center | Adoption Counseling Clinic
information provided by: Orange County Department of Mental Health
Kinship Center offers specialty mental health and counseling services to children and families touched by adoption. Three clinics in Santa Ana offer family-based services, including an Early Intervention Program, traditional mental health services for adopted children and their families and relative caregivers. One of these programs focuses specifically on children placed by the Orange County Social Service Agency. To be eligible for this program, a child must have Orange County Medi-Cal or be eligible as part of the Adoption Assistance Program (AAP). A child may already have been permanently placed/adopted or adoption is being considered as part of the child’s permanent plan. Services are provided in both English and Spanish.
A second similar program offers services to children who do not hold an Orange County Medi-Cal card. Children referred to Kinship Center’s Children and Family Services are those adopted (or placed for adoption) by other California counties, adopted as infants domestically or adopted internationally. This is a fee-for-service program, and Kinship Center accepts many insurance plans as payment as well as the Victim of Crime Program funding.
For adopted children who were originally dependents of Monterey and Santa Clara Counties, Kinship Center’s AFTER project provides Wraparound services to families experiencing significant difficulties related to the adoption.
